In the U.S. it is easy to take advantage of what we have, gold jewelry being one of those things. Many other countries, especially Asian cultures, think of gold jewelry as more than just something to wear. It is seen as more of something to hold onto and pass down to future generations. At Landmark Capital, we believe this to be true. Gold is something that will stand the test of time.
A Lesson From India
We believe that there is a lesson to be learned from other cultures. A recent article from Casey Research states that, “…gold jewelry in India is more than a fancy adornment; it’s a store of value and preserver of wealth. It’s not even an investment; it’s more important than a rising brokerage statement. In India and many other Asian countries, the form gold comes in is less important than how many ounces you own. If you lived in India, gold would represent about 20% of your assets.” You can read the rest of the article by clicking here.
It looks Pretty Too…
Like other forms of gold, its jewelry form is something to be appreciated. Unlike other forms of gold, jewelry is used as an aesthetic. This may seem a little artificial but some investors like to be able to show off their wealth and you can’t really do that with a gold bar. It has monetary value as well as artistic value and potentially sentimental value.
How Pure is Your Gold Jewelry Investment?
The purity of gold jewelry is noted in karats. The higher the karat number, the more gold it contains. 24 karat is 99.99% pure gold. 18 karat gold, meanwhile, is 18/24ths (75 %) gold. Many jewelry pieces are 10 (41.7%), 12 (50%), or 14 (58.3%) karat gold. Such pieces mix relatively soft gold with a harder metal. If you have gold jewelry that is 24 karat, hold onto it. You’ve basically got a small gold coin around your neck, wrists, or fingers.
Gold Plated or Gold Jewelry?
Always be sure to find out whether or not your ‘gold’ jewelry is gold plated or actual gold. If it is gold plated then it is another metal that is simply covered in a thin layer of gold or gold coloring. A good way to know if it is plated or not is if there is no marking stating its karat level.
What Does Your Gold Jewelry Investment Look Like?
